Mirante FM is a radio station that continuously embraces innovation and strives for improvement. Founded on September 8, 1981, coinciding with São Luís's anniversary, Mirante FM was created by entrepreneur Fernando Macieira Sarney with the goal of distinguishing itself in the local broadcasting landscape. A number of notable professionals have contributed to the station's reputation, including José Aniesse Haickel, "Jerebinha," Alberto Farias (in memoriam), Mr. Melody, and many others. Their collective efforts have made Mirante FM a recognized brand that serves various social segments while maintaining its core principle: delivering quality broadcasting.

Over the years, Mirante FM has evolved significantly; it has changed its frequency from 96.7 MHz to 96.1 MHz and incorporated new technologies while welcoming fresh talent into its ranks. The station features a diverse array of presenters, including Nynrod Weber, Aécio Macchi, and Heloísa Batalha—some of whom began their careers at the station—as well as local stars like Amanda Couto and DJ Waldiney. Moreover, it offers opportunities for interns from Communication courses across higher education institutions in Maranhão.

Pioneering entertainment, sports, music, and cultural events in the region, Mirante FM hosts initiatives such as Gincana Mirante, Jogos de Verão, the Festival Maranhense de Música Carnavalesca, and Espaço Mirante FM—a youth space celebrating sertanejo and forró pé de serra within traditional festivities. These events also enhance visibility for the station's advertisers. Notably, Mirante FM has arranged opportunities for listeners to meet renowned artists such as Os Paralamas do Sucesso, Rita Lee, Ivete Sangalo, Cláudia Leitte, and Scorpions.

In 2012, the station underwent a strategic repositioning to focus on the young adult demographic while enhancing its musical identity. This resulted in a new branding that is more mature, dynamic, and strikingly emphasizes the dial 96.1.
